Charter Discussion at Audit & Finance

Colleagues,

I would like to highlight Item 5 on tomorrow’s Audit & Finance Committee agenda regarding a possible 2026 Charter Election. As many of you may remember, the City convened a Charter Review Task Force in 2023. Over the course of a year, the task force and city staff developed recommendations that were presented to Council in 2024. At that time, the City Council approved calling an election, but due to a posting error, the item was ultimately removed from the ballot. This Audit & Finance agenda item seeks to revisit those recommendations for possible consideration later this summer.

We do not expect to take any final action at this meeting, but we wanted to begin the discussion and invite all Council Members to propose any additional amendments as early as possible so staff has and the public have adequate time to review materials for consideration.
