IFC for 8/27: Eviction & Displacement Prevention Services

Post by Melissa Beeler »

On Behalf of CM Qadri

Colleagues,

As I laid out on Thursday, I’ll be bringing an IFC regarding Displacement Prevention and Eviction Prevention Services. The item will be on the August 27 Council agenda. I look forward to continuing to work with City staff and my subquorum for finalization.

Draft resolution: http://assets.austintexas.gov/austincou ... 130238.pdf

As you may recall, for the last year, I’ve been working with community members and our local experts on strengthening our tenant protections and eviction prevention efforts through our Rental Housing Development Assistance (RHDA) program. I’m honored and proud to be working with my colleagues whose districts are most impacted by displacement and eviction. Together, we work to restore these vital programs and chart a path for continued conversation, collaboration, and oversight that maximizes public value while remaining financially responsible.

I welcome feedback or discussion here.

Best,

Colleagues,

I want to share the final version 2 of our resolution, which clarifies my intent to provide direction on already appropriated funding, not amending the FY27 budget. The goal remains to prevent gaps in our well-performing displacement prevention services, assess, and receive recommendations from our expert staff on how we should spend our limited dollars to best reduce displacement and evictions as an upstream response to prevent homelessness.
