Item 67 GNR PUD: Motion Directing Urgent Safety Improvements

Colleagues,

The intersection of Slaughter Ln and Old Lockhart Rd continues to pose a significant safety risk for pedestrians and vehicles. There is on average a crash every month - most recently a crash in the area occurred involving 2 young student pedestrians struck by a vehicle making their way to school nearby.

We must address the safety concerns in this area with urgency. The need for better infrastructure is well documented, and while there are required improvements in this PUD agreement (item 67), I am seeking more immediate interim solutions and intend to offer this direction to the City Manager today to pursue a temporary traffic signal at this intersection. Everyone deserves to move safely through our city, and as we see growth in this part of our city and region, this action will make our streets safer for everyone in the area.
