Update on Firefighter Pension Bill (HB 2802)

Post by Colleen Pate »

Colleagues,

I’m pleased to let you all know that House Bill 2802, the firefighter pension legislation, passed the Texas Senate today on a vote of 31-0 and is headed to the Governor. This is an important bill that will improve the retirement security for our active and retired firefighters while also improving the City’s fiscal outlook. Many thanks to Rep. Bucy, Sen. Schwertner and Sen. Flores for working with us on this essential legislation.

Crafting this bill and moving it through the legislative process has been a team effort, and I appreciate the extraordinary work from City staff, including Ed Van Eenoo and his team and Carrie Rogers and her team, as well as the board members and staff of the Austin Firefighters Retirement Fund Board of Trustees.

Thanks,
Kirk
