City of Austin Council Message Board

Council Members,

Congratulations on a successful and historic council meeting last night! Now that the new council committee structure is set, we will initiate the process of making appointments to those committees, and consider appointments to other bodies which require councilmember participation (Capital Metro, CAMPO, CAPCOG, etc).

Below is an initial list of committees and bodies for council appointments.

The Mayor plans to visit individually with each of you, either prior to or at the executive session next Thursday (posted to Discuss personnel matters related to the appointment of council members to council committees, intergovernmental bodies and other entities (Personnel Exception – 551.074 of the Government Code)).

However, and perhaps beneficial to this process, he wanted to invite you (but only if you wished) to express interest in serving (or not serving) on any of the bodies below via this bulletin board. The Psychiatric Stakeholders Committee has also had representation from the Council in the past; Mayor Leffingwell was the representative, and I served as an informal proxy. I'm happy to speak with anyone who is interested about this group.

There was also a working group, task force or committee that has been meeting for several years to establishing rules regarding 'Unregulated Board and Care Homes' - Councilmember Morrison was working on that neighborhood issue.

I am interested in the Psychiatric Stakeholders Group - in addition to Council Committees etc.

I recall from our orientation that someone was going to put together a list of all the informal committees - Was it Bert Lumbreras? I'm not certain but will follow up, since we all need that list also.

I want to suggest that 2 councilmembers be selected to serve on metro. In the past, that was what was done but somehow it changed to 1 councilmember and 1 citizen. I want to serve on metro because what happens at the vacant Saltillo Plaza tract will determine the fate of most central easst austin neighborhoods. FYI: we had the support of all the elected officials on the board for most of our issues with metro but the citizen appointee, John Langmore, did not have to be held accountABLE for his votes. Wit a bigger council, we should take both seatts on this board. Thanks. Pio Renteria
