Colleagues,

I want to thank Mayor Pro Tem Pool for championing item 72 which is an important resolution focused on funding our parks. This Council has consistently demonstrated its commitment to parks through policy initiatives and strategic budgetary investments.

Building on the spirit of this resolution, I would like to propose a few amendments that I believe will further strengthen and complement its objectives. I hope these amendments will be viewed as friendly and can be incorporated into the base motion.

Thank you, Council Member Alter for bringing these amendments forward. I support these changes, as I believe they not only strengthen item 72 but underscore the need for funding equitable access to parks within Austin’s urban core.

Thank you,
Council Member José Velásquez

Thank you MPT Pool and CM Alison Alter for your long service and leadership for our park system. I support exploring all funding options that might bring additional resources to PARD, and I believe these proposed amendments only strengthen that direction. I look forward to the recommendations that will result from this direction and I'm eager to work with colleagues to achieve our community's goals for equitable park access and improved service levels.

Thank you, CM Alison Alter, for your additions; I have incorporated your changes and further refined the resolution to restate our goals for equitable park access and service, particularly in areas that have long been underserved.

I’m very pleased that we have the support of so many on the dais to find funding solutions to sustain and grow our incredibly well-loved park system.
