Item #53 Revised Resolution

Colleagues
After meeting with additional stakeholders, I have updated the proposed resolution for item 53 to clarify the intent. These changes include making it explicit that Council expects the ordinance drafting process to include stakeholders’ input, that budget considerations should be part of the staff recommendations, and that staff should recognize the unique challenges faced by immigrant workers. The resolution already acknowledges that recommendations for any ordinance language will be made within legal parameters related to municipal authority.
I want to also thank my co-sponsors on this item, CMs Casar, Tovo, Fuentes and Renteria. My office has worked closely with our Travis County DA's office, and has been in communication with contacts in the County Attorney's office and the US Dept of Labor on this item as well. Internally, We’ve had feedback from city attorneys and staff, including our Civil Rights Officer and Contract Compliance Office. I look forward to discussion of this item tomorrow and am hopeful that this resolution will foster a broader conversation about protecting our local workforce.
