Updated List of Council Committees and Appointments

Post by Colleen Pate »

Colleagues—

As promised in my recent post, I want to share an update regarding council committees and intergovernmental appointments based on the preferences I have received from everyone through the message board.

http://assets.austintexas.gov/austincou ... 173430.pdf

The document shows that there are certain committees we will need to continue discussing before the January 28th work session. Please continue to use the message board for input. If there have been fewer than six council members indicating a desire to be on a committee, I’ve listed all of them as “possible members” of the committee. In those instances where we have over six members showing interest, I’ve listed only potential leadership and existing committee members who wish to be reappointed. I’ve listed additional council members requesting a committee position in the “comments.”

As noted, I’ve gone ahead and listed recommendations for committee leadership—chairs and vice-chairs—in red.

Additionally, there are a few intergovernmental committees that we will have to clean up because either their work has been completed or the committee hasn’t convened in a long time. I’ve signaled those committees.

I look forward to continuing this conversation. Please respond to this thread if you have any updates regarding committee memberships.

Thanks

Colleagues,

I would like to step back from Audit and Finance Committee and the Economic Opportunity Committee to make more room for my colleagues.

Instead, I would like to serve on the Mobility Committee and on CAMPO.

Hi all,

To accommodate my colleagues and ensure balance in terms of priorities and leadership opportunities, I will withdraw from consideration for Audit & Finance and Public Health. I would like to join the reauthorized Climate, Water and Parks Committee.

Colleagues—

I’ve attached another draft committee list after the most recent message board comments shared this week. Please take a moment to review the current proposed committee assignments based upon the message board discussion/consultation.

It looks like we are very close to finalizing the list before the January 28th work session. Thanks to all of you for your input and effort. I appreciate you all providing the necessary feedback to keep all of us in the loop regarding your preferences.

Please let us know if you do not see your name on a committee that you requested or if you’re listed on one that you didn’t request. Additionally, there are a few openings that remain on committees. If you are interested in one of those spots, please let us know.

Thanks again, everyone, for all your work on getting this done.

On behalf of CM Qadri:

Thank you, Mayor, for this update. As you noted in the attachment, I would like to serve on both the CAMPO and CapMetro boards. I support CM Ellis serving on the CapMetro board, and I want to thank her for recommending me for CAMPO's appointment to CapMetro, which she currently holds. My experience as Vice Chair of the Mobility Committee, dedication to progressing Austin's transit and multimodal mobility efforts, and representation of Downtown and Austin's other transit-rich areas would be valuable on the CapMetro board to ensure transit riders are well represented.

I would appreciate my colleagues' support as I seek this appointment through the CAMPO board.

Best,
